![]() Now, with all of that in mind, it’s time to rank the top 10 best animated Batman movies in order from #1 through #10, so read on! For any given film, the weight of one or more factors might be different than for a different film, for many reasons including just how the movie makes me feel about weighing those factors for or against it. I also take into consideration the animation, the pure entertainment value, the writing and directing and performances, how the film compares in artistic and entertainment terms with other films on the list ahead of it and behind it, and the added value of being unique in some (or many) aspect(s). So at least a couple of movies on the list might surprise you, including where they rank compared to other films. However, I also actually do love and am capable of enjoying practically any iteration of Batman, even the campier kid-focused ones like Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the live-action 1966 Batman TV show, for example. The selections and rankings on this list reflect all of those tastes and ideas, for sure. There are other characters for whom the real person underneath is so foundational to their masked persona that it’s hard to imagine or accept someone else taking on the role, but I think it’s a rare condition. I think the convergence of a great many factors at the right time in the right order gave birth to Batman as I understand and prefer him, making Batman a persona that reflects everything about Bruce Wayne and what he went through and accomplished to create and build Batman as a hero and myth. I understand the appeal of the idea “Batman could be anybody, it’s a mystery,” I think the nuanced truth includes, “.but not just anybody could be Batman.” ![]() While I really like and appreciate plenty of stories in which someone else other than Bruce Wayne has taken on the mantle of Batman, and while there are some spectacular stories with Dick Grayson temporarily donning the cowl for example, the vast majority of the time I prefer Bruce Wayne as Batman.
